Keno, especially Video Keno, is a hugely misunderstood game. This great game accounts for the biggest winners for the smallest investment among all slot machines. Yes, it is classified as a slot machine, even though it is basically an 80-number field, into which the computer draws 20 numbers at random. Many people, especially in the days before computers, said that Keno is boring, because Live Keno often took so long to play. People would sit in the Keno Lounge for a long time, waiting for the next game to start. Many older players played Keno because it was not too expensive, and they could spend a comfortable day sitting in the Keno Lounge, having drinks and food brought to them, and play Keno for not much investment.
Well, so the legend goes, there was this nice old man who would go to the Keno Lounge and sit there for the whole day, and sometimes the whole night, playing. He always played the same ticket, and in all the many years he was playing never won the jackpot, which at that time was a maximum of $50,000 for hitting the perfect ticket. One day the Keno staff noticed that this man had been sitting in his chair for a long time. After a few inquiries they found out that he had been there for three days. While this was not so unusual, what was unusual was that he seemed to be sleeping. So they tried to wake him, but alas found out that he had died the night before.
This was, of course, a shock, and everyone was sad, because he was truly a nice man. As the doctor and coroner were removing him from the seat, they found him clutching his Keno ticket, crumpled in his clenched fist. After carefully removing the ticket, the Keno Staff found out that this was a perfect ticket! Yes, the man had finally won the $50,000 jackpot! When he saw it that night, he was so excited he had a heart attack and died, and no one noticed. But he had a smile on his face, and so everyone knew that somewhere in heaven he was having the best laugh of his life. And so goes the passing parade in Las Vegas.... |
